Overlooking a world-famous city skyline, this property was to be stripped back to basics and completely reworked as a luxury one-bedroom apartment with a double-height ceiling. The open-plan design, devised to provide respite from the tropical heat, proved a significant challenge from a technological perspective, as bulky equipment needed to be kept out of sight yet kept cooled at its optimum working temperature.
While there are several clever innovations in this property, from an invisible set of speaker units recessed into the wall to a robotic finger used to activate the disc slot on a Bluray player hidden from view, the lighting is surely the crowning glory of this wonderful space. A floor-to-ceiling LED-accentuated wall draws attention to the far wall, while colour changing ‘jewel boxes’ provide privacy while remaining a colourful focal point to the property. Meanwhile, several interlocking ceiling panels, modelled on the sails of a ship, complement the rest of the room with warm, bright washes of light.
